At Henry Schein New Zealand, sustainability is more than a commitment, it’s a responsibility we take seriously across every part of our business. In extension to our ongoing partnership with Toitū, we’re excited to share some of the latest initiatives we’ve been working on to reduce our environmental impact and support a more circular economy.
Transitioning to 100% Recycled Cardboard Boxes
One of the most significant changes underway is the transition from our traditional white boxes to packaging made from 100% recycled cardboard. While white boxes have long been associated with a clean and crisp appearance, they often require bleaching and additional processing, steps that consume more energy and water. By switching to recycled content boxes, we’re giving materials a second life, helping divert waste from landfills, and supporting the regenerative cycle within our packaging processes and supply chain.
This change is more than cosmetic; it’s a practical step toward reducing resource consumption and lowering our carbon footprint. Every recycled box represents a small but meaningful contribution to a healthier planet.
Reducing Plastic and Non-Biodegradable Materials
Our commitment doesn’t stop at cardboard. We are actively moving away from traditional packaging that relies on plastic and other non-biodegradable materials, which have long-term impacts on pollution and waste. Where possible, we continue to explore innovative alternatives that are both environmentally responsible and fit for purpose - ensuring that the quality and protection of our goods remain uncompromised throughout the delivery process.
Looking Ahead
These initiatives are part of a broader sustainability roadmap that includes ongoing research, collaboration with suppliers, and investment in greener solutions. We know that change doesn’t happen overnight, but every step forward brings us closer to a future where healthcare and sustainability go hand in hand.
Together, with the support of our customers and partners, we’re proud to be making choices that matter, for our communities, for our industry, and for the planet.
