A few simple habits can noticeably extend plate life, reduce artefacts and help reduce unnecessary replacements.

Light protection covers are more than just barrier sleeves. Dürr Dental Light Protection Covers are designed specifically for VistaScan plates to protect them from contamination, external light and mechanical stress.

The original covers use soft, health approved material that is highly light resistant and 100% hygienically sealed, helping preserve image quality from exposure through to scanning.

A key design advantage is how the adhesive areas and seams are positioned. By keeping the sealing strip away from the active plate surface and away from the scanner’s feed slot, the covers help prevent residue building up on the plate or being drawn into the unit.

Keeping plates clean with VistaScan Image Plate Cleaning Wipes

Even when plates are always used with covers, they gradually pick up thin layers of fats, dust and other residues that can reduce contrast and create artefacts.

VistaScan Image Plate Cleaning Wipes are Dürr Dental’s only approved cleaning product for VistaScan plates. They are specifically formulated for the plate material and contain a material compatible solution that removes soiling from the active side while protecting the surface.

They are designed to remove dirt and fats, maintain image quality and extend plate life. Plates should be cleaned fortnightly or when contaminated, then allowed to dry fully before reuse.

Mechanical damage, especially along the edges, is a common reason for early image plate replacement.

The VistaPosition PSP holder system secures plates while minimising stress. Special bite blocks hold plates gently using a retractable design rather than compressing edges, helping prevent damage and improve consistency.

Monitoring plate quality with VistaScan IQ plates and VistaSoft

VistaScan IQ plates include RFID chips that allow tracking of plate usage and condition.

With VistaSoft, plate quality can be graded from A to E, helping identify when plates are nearing end of life. This supports proactive replacement and consistent diagnostic quality.
